We bought our home around 7 years ago, it was built in 1895. Believe me when I say it doesn't have a lot of the Victorian details left in it, It has been kinda re muddled over the years. When we got it was stuck in a 90's state of mind.
First thing I did was paint the cabinets a cream color. Used a bright yellow on the walls. Not sure what I was going for with the color scheme but just figured anything was better then what we had. We lived with this for 6 years. One day I told hubs please for the love of God can we do a mini remodel!? He was reluctant being a contractor he never wants to work around home. I get it I was a hairdresser for years and never wanted to cut hair after I got off work.
So after a bit of cohersing I got my way! So first thing we did was covered the popcorn ceiling with amazing ceiling tiles I found at www.antiqueceilings.com They are made of Styrofoam and you can go right over popcorn ceilings! They were way cheaper then the others I'd priced. All you have to do is glue them up.It was so easy!! We painted over them also. The pic is in the process of painting.
We then laid new floors. We chose a laminate wood floor made by Mohawk. Then we added wood counters by buying the premade at Menards. We stained it dark and sealed with 7 coats of General finishes satin topcoat. I painted the walls in Dutch boy parchment. Then we hung new chandeliers from Lowes. That was a big debate cause I couldn't decide if I should make them match or mix it up and mismatch. I finally decided to mix and match. I love it. Not a real matchy kinda gal.
So here it is after...
Oh forgot to mention the farmhouse sink!! My fav addition to the kitchen. We purchased it from Ikea.
Please ignore the random thing on the bar stool!
SO this is the new kitchen! I'am very pleased with it!
