Hello Everyone, Im excited to share that the Valentines DecorHop is up and running. I'm working with some amazing ladies who are also sharing their Valentines Day Decor. So please hop on over and check out their beautiful homes. Terrie www.decorateandmorewithtip.com Terressa www.increasethefancy.com Sherry www.coastalhappiness.com Amber www.heedingthehearth.com My Home In my home I just concentrated on my Valentine decor to my fireplace and some in my dining room. I really enjoyed getting to create and do some diy this year for it. This is my fireplace in my living room. I made the piece in the middle from an old vanity mirror that had some issues. I pulled the mirrors out since they wanted to fall out whenever you stood it up. I stripped the horrible black paint job it had. I then added the beadbord to it and stained it all with dark walnut, and then whitewashed it. I knew I wanted to hang above the fireplace to decorate around it. I made the wreath hanging on it. I just love the way it all came together. I added the pretty scrapbook paper to the window with modge podge. I've had the little red childs chair for quite awhile. It usually hold Georgie the pig. He was demoted off to hold the cute heart pillows. He was inherited from my mom. I just adore him! The pillows I actually purchased off someone. I absolutely couldnt resist these beautiful roses from Trader Joes. The perfect shade of pink. I made the pink pom poms to add to the rag garland. I have had the garland for a couple years I got it at a sale where the gal was going out of business. It was only $15!! The lights strung in the garland is heart lights I bought from Target Dollar spot last year. Used my old scale with some greenery and pretty pink flower. I recently added the frame with the old tin in it to my decor. It was a surprise find I found at an antique store for $20. I just love finding treasures that are inexpensive and different from what you can buy at the big box stores. I made the pillow with the hearts on it. It was a fun and easy project. The pink heart was a Target Dollar spot find. Noticing a trend here? Target is my second home! The old music sheets hearts also an easy and economical project. We will now move into the dining room. I hung some heart decorations from my Chandelier. I decorated my buffet that I just recently painted with milk paint. It is such an awesome piec to decorate on! Added a little love to my coffee bar. ![]() This cute little piece that is my coffee bar I recently traded for it. It will be getting a makeover soon. The Love letters were paper mache that I sprayed them with gold metallic paint. Also Made some more music sheet hearts for a banner. Another project that I added beadboard too is the big frame it is a favorite to change up with the holidyas too. I used the hearts in a nest for some Valentine decor. I love this on my old scale which I decorate for every holiday. How cute are these heartswith a little bling on them? I got them from a friend of mine who made them. Well that is the tour of my Valentine decor. hope you enjoyed it! Please go check out the other lovely ladies Valentine decor. I would love to hear some feedback from you. Thanks for visiting The Shabby Nest

I have a facebook group called The shabby nest painting furniture like pro. I share painting techniques and tips. So if you are interested in joining please feel free to join us.
Last night I did a tutorial on milk paint. I know a lot of people are scared of it. There is no reason just takes some practice and you can come to love it as much as me! Here are a few pieces I painted in milk paint. It just gives your pieces that old finish look and can chip and peel creating a shabby chic look.
See how pretty milk paint can make piece? So if you would like to join my group go to FB and search The shabby nest painting furniture like a pro group or just hop over to my Business page on Fb and there will be a link on there to join. No obligation!

![]() Once we got into tearing up the floor we found a whole lot of rot! So bad that our bathtub was hanging on rotted joists!! We could of fell through! Hubs being a contractor said we are gonna have to gut it! OH lord we had company coming in 7 days! I started to panic! Hubs was like it will be fine we got this. He was NOT thrilled that it had turned into such a major reno but he also knew it had to be done! So the demo began! I kept picturing Chip Gaines in my head during the demo! DEMO DAY! There were several layers of plywood and old flooring. That took a whole day to get through all that! Look at what our tub was sitting on! Ughh! There were rotten studs and floor joists all around the tub area. So we tore out the sheet rock and look what was underneath!!
Shiplap! Well it was actually the old wood they had put under the original siding. The bath was added later so this was an outside wall. Unfortunately we couldn't use this as it was in rough shape and had huge holes in it and was only on two walls. Bummer!
SO we sheet rocked over it. Then we used 3/8" sanded plywood which was ripped down to 5 1/2" strips. We used a nail gun to adhere it to the studs. Creating our own shiplap. Which we primed with Zinsser's 123 water based primer. Love Zinsser's! We then painted it. We chose a sprayer as it made it so much easier with getting in the cracks too!
My son reframed our window for us. He is very much a perfectionist so he made it look like a farmhouse style for us. We didn't have a whole lot of trim with as high as the window was set originally. I love it though!
The ceiling we decided to use a product we found at Menards and I hear Home Depot carries it too. It is called Faux shiplap and comes in a couple different colors. It looks rustic and old. One thing I do want to say about this product though is it is made from particle board so we were concerned about moisture. So I came up with the idea to shellac the back thoroughly! Then once installed I put a clear coat of General Finishes Topcoat to seal it thoroughly,
Here is a close up of it installed. Very easy to install too. It kind of clicks together and we used construction adhesive and a nail gun to secure.
Next was the floors we went with a vinyl waterproof plank. Super easy to lay also. It had adhesive strips to kind of seal the planks together. My son came and helped hubs lay it so it was down super fast!
Hard workers! Remember we only had a week to do this bathroom in. This was day 4.
Next was using my vintage claw foot tub that I got off the road for sale for $25!! It was in great shape and only needed the out side repainted. I had found it over a year ago and saved it for my someday remodel. It just happened to be a lot faster then we knew it would. Not sad about that though! ![]()
Isn't it so cute! I painted it Gold. This was only one coat on it. I added another coat once installed.
We totally lucked out on the faucet and shower converter kit. I had looked feverishly online and they were expensive and no one could have it here in 3 days. So by pure luck I went on craigslist and there was a brand new kit on there for sale. I messaged right away and high tailed to pick it up! They had bought it and he got cancer s o they were unable to finish the remodel they had planned. Made me feel kind of bad... They were happy someone would get some use of it. I saved $100 bucks too! We also made the shower curtain ring out of plumbing. Saved a lot right there. The bathroom was coming together so fast and actually very reasonable on our budget. Next was the vanity I had an old dresser I wanted to make into a vanity. I stripped the top and stained it, I sealed it wit General Finish topcoat. It took like seven coats. I probably over did it but there is a lot of water that would be on it! I painted it with Sweet Pickens Milk paint in sweetie Jane. Love that color! we cut a hole out to place the sink down into. ![]()
Once that was all installed. they put the new toilet in. Never knew I could love a toilet or a shower so much! After not having a true shower for 5 days I was overjoyed to have it!! This was our only bathroom with a shower.
So after 6 days we completed it! Now we have a farmhouse style bath I adore! My son jokingly refers to it as the back porch as it has so much wood in it! LOL So here it is!!
The shower curtains I ordered off Amazon I had to have two to fit. I also have three shower liners under them to fit all the way around. The curtain was from Target from the Shabby Chic line. The shelves were from Hobby Lobby. The sconces I got at a flea market for $30 for the pair! I have another pair I will use somewhere else. The mirror I found on a sale sight for $20 SCORE!!
IF you made it through the whole long post Thank You!! I want to say one final thing this entire redo coat us just under $1100 for everything! I know we saved a lot with hubs and son being contractors for that I'm so blessed!
Hope you like my new bath. Thanks for stopping by! Much Love, Traci We bought our home around 7 years ago, it was built in 1895. Believe me when I say it doesn't have a lot of the Victorian details left in it, It has been kinda re muddled over the years. When we got it was stuck in a 90's state of mind. ![]() First thing I did was paint the cabinets a cream color. Used a bright yellow on the walls. Not sure what I was going for with the color scheme but just figured anything was better then what we had. We lived with this for 6 years. One day I told hubs please for the love of God can we do a mini remodel!? He was reluctant being a contractor he never wants to work around home. I get it I was a hairdresser for years and never wanted to cut hair after I got off work. So after a bit of cohersing I got my way! So first thing we did was covered the popcorn ceiling with amazing ceiling tiles I found at www.antiqueceilings.com They are made of Styrofoam and you can go right over popcorn ceilings! They were way cheaper then the others I'd priced. All you have to do is glue them up.It was so easy!! We painted over them also. The pic is in the process of painting. We then laid new floors. We chose a laminate wood floor made by Mohawk. Then we added wood counters by buying the premade at Menards. We stained it dark and sealed with 7 coats of General finishes satin topcoat. I painted the walls in Dutch boy parchment. Then we hung new chandeliers from Lowes. That was a big debate cause I couldn't decide if I should make them match or mix it up and mismatch. I finally decided to mix and match. I love it. Not a real matchy kinda gal. So here it is after... Oh forgot to mention the farmhouse sink!! My fav addition to the kitchen. We purchased it from Ikea. ![]() Please ignore the random thing on the bar stool!
SO this is the new kitchen! I'am very pleased with it! Traci ![]() Welcome to my blog! I'm starting this to share furniture makeovers, Decorating, and share some techniques with you. I'm an avid vintage, antique and just plain junk lover! So many of the pieces I work on come to me in disrepair maybe headed to the dump. I love taking that piece and making it beautiful again. I do a lot of custom pieces for people and it is so fun when they come to pick up the furniture and see how it has changed. Updating kitchen cupboards is another thing I do and man it is always amazing to me to see how much paint can transform a space. So welcome to my little space. I hope you will enjoy following along! |
